Doja Cat

Doja Cat, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini on October 21, 1995, is an American rapper and singer from Los Angeles. Doja Cat gained early recognition on SoundCloud with tracks like “So High” and signed a record deal with Kemosabe and RCA Records before releasing her debut extended play, Purrr!, in 2014. Following a brief hiatus and a less-than-remarkable launch of her first studio album, Amala (2018), Doja Cat experienced viral success with the comedic single “Mooo!” in 2018.

Capitalizing on her newfound popularity, she released her second studio album, Hot Pink, the following year. The album achieved top-ten status on the US Billboard 200, featuring the hit single “Say So,” whose remix with Nicki Minaj reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2021, her third studio album, Planet Her, spent four weeks at number two on the Billboard 200, featuring successful singles like “Kiss Me More,” “Need to Know,” and “Woman.” Her fourth studio album, Scarlet (2023), took on a hip-hop sound, reaching the top five on the Billboard 200. The lead single, “Paint the Town Red,” marked her first solo number-one on the Hot 100.

Described by The Wall Street Journal as “a skilled technical rapper with a strong melodic sense and a bold visual presence,” Doja Cat is renowned for creating viral content on platforms like TikTok. Known for her absurdist online persona and engaging stage presence, she has received numerous accolades, including one Grammy Award, five Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, and five MTV Video Music Awards. Recognized as one of the most influential people in the world by Time in 2023, Doja Cat remains one of the biggest commercial artists of the 2020s, according to Billboard.
